Laminate flooring can last for many years if you are willing to maintain and care for it. Any floor will last longer if it is properly installed and then subsequently maintained. Laminate flooring, specifically, can last longer than tile and carpet if it is cared for in the proper manner.

One of the biggest selling points on laminate flooring is that is it easy to maintain. When you search for new flooring for your home, you will likely hear laminate flooring promoted often as easy to maintain. With today's busy lifestyles, maintenance is not something anyone wants to spend a lot of time doing.

No matter how easy the maintenance on laminate flooring may be, the floors do not clean themselves. When they are exposed to traffic on a daily basis, dirt will accumulate and the surface of the floors will start to look dull instead of shiny and new. In order to keep the floors free from dirt and grim, it is important to sweep or dry mop the floors on a regular basis. If the dirt has been building up for awhile, you may want to use some of the laminate flooring products on the market to get through the grim to the floor.

One of the biggest problems with laminate flooring is that it can scratch. Nothing takes away from the look of a floor than a big, intrusive scratch. Though laminate floors are durable, heavy furniture, high heels, and other sharp objects can damage them. The best way you can protect the appearance of your floor is to take precautions and minimize these risks. That means taking high heel shoes off at the door and perhaps putting foam pads on the legs of furniture so they will not damage the floor when moved. These small steps will go a long way in protecting the floors over the years.

It is also a good idea to place rugs on the floors where there will be heavy traffic. This will also keep the dirt from touching the floor. Overall, laminate floors are much like many other floors. If you care for them, they will work well for you for many years or even decades. The less you do, the more wear and tear the floors will show. If you do not clean your floors or prevent them from scratching, you will likely have to replace them much earlier in order to maintain the value of your house. Floors are very noticeable and if you ever try to sell your home, you will have to address any flooring issues it may have. Laminate flooring is a great choice in kitchens and bathrooms as well as entryways, laundry rooms, and other areas of the house.
