How to buy wine? That seems to be a no-brainer. Go to a store, take your pick, and pay for it. Buying wine, however, is not as simple as that-or at least for the wine lovers. If you want to be a pro in selecting the right wine, here are some tips to get you started.

Tasting the Wine

The so-called "tasting" of wine is not the same when you simply drink the wine at leisure. Wine tasting requires almost all your senses . First, your sight. Observe the wine's color. How deep is its redness? Is it more of a ruby or a garnet? See how the color fades towards the rim of the glass; the more faded it is, the older the wine. Then, the smell. Have a sniff of the wine. What do you associate with what you smelled? Lastly, the taste. Drink the wine or rather have a gulp and let it swirl in your mouth for a while. The sour taste is that which stays on the inside of your cheeks. Tannin is that which is left around your lips. Bitterness stays all throughout the drink. And there's also the finish? How long did it last?

The purpose of wine tasting is for you to have a sensory memory of the wine you chose to taste. Use words to associate to what you are seeing, smelling, or tasting so you can better remember the wine's quality and you can recall them even if you don't have the wine in front of you. Another tip when tasting wine, hold the glass on its leg so you don't warm the wine .

Where to Buy

There are plenty of stores to buy wine from. Both convenient stores and supermarkets are almost everywhere, though you're better off buying from the supermarket since they can offer more variety of wines than a convenient store can . There are also stores in the vineyards and winemaker's property, which give you an opportunity to talk with the wine makers and get more tips when it comes to wine. You can even buy wine online nowadays.

Reputable online stores are your best bet. Well, it's a given that buying online is easy; just a few clicks and there you have it. But another reason why you would want to buy wine online is that although you can't talk personally to a wine expert and ask for advice on choosing wine, online stores have web contents that can do just that: inform you on choosing the right wine for you.

How Many Bottles to Buy

If the wine is needed for a party , assume that a guest will have at most three glasses and that a bottle has at most six glasses. But, of course, you should also buy a few extra bottles, just in case. If you are buying just for your self, a bottle of fine wine would do . But if you intend to order online, take note of shipping charge, which may be almost the same as the price of the bottle alone.

Remember these tips, practice wine tasting, and be mindful of your buying, especially if online, and in time you can buy wine like a pro.
