You may not know it yet but there are actually different types of notebook computers sold online. Although these battery-powered devices usually come in the same form, they are actually different in terms of mobility, portability, performance and weight. So before you go online and search for notebook computers, try to find out first what these notebook computer types are, and from there you can go on to the notebook's internal features that you want.
Desktop Replacement (DTR)
Just as the notebook's name suggests, this type of notebook computer serves as a replacement for the desktop computer that you have at home. It has all of the capabilities and hardware coverage that a desktop computer offers only in a more compact form. Performance wise, desktop replacement notebook computers can handle as much strain as a desktop computer can.
What's good about DTRs is that they have faster processing speeds and they usually come with features that enable users to watch movies or use hardcore 3D rendering software programs. The monitors are also built for the same purpose. DTRs also come with multiple ports that allow you to plug in multiple multimedia devices. A downside to most DTRs though is their considerably short batter life. Most DTRs are also heavy in design, which means portability will be an issue.
Ultraportable
Ultraportable notebooks were designed to provide more emphasis to a notebook's portability. Though it works very much like the standard notebook computer, you will notice that it lacks the rich features that you can find in a desktop computer or a DTR -- it comes with very low graphics capabilities and just the decent amount of processing speed. Netbooks fall into this category.
It's very light and sleek design make it perfect for people who are always traveling constantly during work. It also has a longer battery life that can last up to 10 hours without charging. However, it's very small screen can prove as a very big disadvantages as it makes it very uncomfortable to use.
Rugged Laptop
Rugged notebooks were designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Extreme temperature, dusty or wet environments and strong vibrations that mostly cause damage to other notebook types will not affect this notebook's performance at all. Rugged notebook computers are heavier and bulkier as compared to other types of notebook computers.
An advantage to this type of notebook is that your work will not be hampered regardless of the conditions in your environment. However, the notebook's price is another story. Rugged laptops are often pricey because they are mostly built from scratch.
Tablet
Tablet or convertible notebooks have a specially designed joint that allow you to fold down your notebook's monitor on top of its keyboard. This type of notebook is often used by graphic designers and artists who have to manually draw their designs in the computer.
The primary advantage of this type of notebook is that it gives its users more freedom and ease to draw or design their art. The same cannot be said for the notebook itself though as the joints found between the notebook's monitor and keyboard serves as its physical weakness. This type of notebook computer is also more expensive especially if you want a very durable one.
Different types of notebook computers offer different functionalities. Try to find out first how you plan to use your notebook so you can choose the type that will be most suitable for you.
