Microdermabrasion is one of the latest fads in non-invasive skin treatments. This is because of its fast recovery rate and visible results. Thus, if one is about to undergo this treatment, this article will discuss some tips on what to do before, during and after one's session. In due time, one may learn these by heart as microdermabrasion treatments always come in groups.

Before Treatment

Since this is a non-invasive procedure, there are not a lot of pre-procedure regimens. If a person who is about to go through this treatment uses Retin-A or any products containing glycolic or salicylic acid, he or she must stop using this product first. For smokers, it is highly encouraged to stop smoking a week prior to treatment.

Before the treatment, the esthetician or your dermatologist will also launch into a very quick skin evaluation and will run you through the events that will happen on your face.

To cleanse off the area where this particular treatment will occur, the dermatologist will also put some soothing gel on one's face which will pick up all the impurities on the face.

During Treatment

For those having the crystal microdermabrasion, minute crystals will be sprayed on the skin that will act as the abrasive materials that will exfoliate the upper layer of dead skin cells in the epidermis. This is done via a tool that also vacuums the crystals and dead skin cells from the face. One is given a pair of goggles to protect one's eyes for this procedure.

A newer technique, which uses a diamond-tip wand, is also available nowadays. The wand will be moved across the face at a steady pressure, passing 3 times at most on the epidermis. The newer technique also has an eye cover but goggles are not required. Cloth or cotton covers will work for the eyes.

The whole treatment is pain-free and the only uneasy feeling that is felt is when the wand is passing and there is a feeling that a rough brush is grazing one's skin.

After Treatment

Unlike with regular dermabrasion where one's skin looks like it was burned severely, this procedure does not have an obvious adverse post-treatment look to it. The skin will only look slightly pink, even to the point of just having a healthy blush on one's cheeks. The treated skin will also be susceptible to sun damage thus a day after this facial treatment, it is instructed to stay out of the sun and use moisturizer with sunblock. This will protect the area from sun damage as well as address the "tight" feeling that is also a side effect of such treatments.

This may seem a lot of work now, reading though the items one needs to take note of for this facial procedure. However, these notes will flow naturally to a person once it is his/her 4th session with one's favorite esthetician. Microdermabrasion is far simpler than the other treatments our there as this one is non-surgical.
