Air conditioners are commonly sold to companies that install units rather than directly to a consumer. This is because they have to be installed by contractors who have licenses. Pricing is usually a packaged deal, which includes the actual unit (air conditioner/heater), the ductwork, permits, labor and anything else that goes along with the installation process. The prices can vary severely depending on the efficiency or quality of the unit and with it getting closer to the winter months, the better the HVAC system the more you may have to pay however that is not always the case. Consumer Reports actually states that you could expect to pay around $3,000 more if you plan on getting rid of an old system and replacing it with a newer one. However, if you need all new ductwork you can expect to hash out another $6,000.

As you can tell, it can get really expensive when it comes to air conditioning and heating. The difference between the two would be that if you do not have a fireplace in your home it would be very hard to heat your home in the winter. In the summertime, however, you could have fans running or a small window air conditioning unit running to help cool your home. This makes having the proper equipment at getting them at the right prices that much more important. Air conditioner prices are at a considerable low from what they have been in recent years so if you are looking to replace your anytime soon, now would be the time.

Experts say that the air conditioner brand known as "Goodman" is a very great unit to have in relation to its cost. Contractors state that they are a lot cheaper than most other brands. The installation costs may be lower also too due Goodman being less "selective" on the parts and installers they use. If you decide you want to use one of the more known installers like Trane or Carrier or Lennox then you can expect to pay more. The manufacturer never reveals the air conditioner prices along with the installation costs. This could be due to the fact prices vary area by area. When you decide to look into air conditioner prices, make sure the bids are including all the costs and fees including the disposal of your old unit.

Make sure that you ensure product quality is tied in with your decision when you factor in the air conditioner prices. As far as brand and quality will go, the most expensive name brands are probably the same as the economical brands you see in the same area and they are probably made on the same assembly line too. This does not necessarily mean that you do not get what you are paying for. Buying a more expensive unit usually means you are getting something extra but that is something that you have to ask the technician when you are shopping.
