We usually create rules in life to make things that are a bit difficult to understand more comprehendible, more structured, which is the reason why there are fashion clothing rules. This actually makes it easier for people to dress themselves up when they know what and what not to wear based on these hard and fast rules. The only problem with this is that as the trends and tastes of people change, so should the rules of fashion clothing, right? Well, this does not happen. Most of the fashion rules now are outdated. Here are some fashion rules to break
Match shoes, belts and bags
This may have worked back in the days where ladies wear suits that go with their hats. Nowadays, you can play up the colors. Deep red pumps will go well with a black clutch if your outfit supports it. Do not hesitate to go out of the box.
Denim on denim
This may be true if you are wearing a pair of tired faded jeans with an old faded blouse. But jeans nowadays have different hues, different styles. If you have the body for it, pair a light tube top faded denim with a pair of dark denim flares for a retro chic look.
Fit to a Tee
There are some folks that say your clothing needs to fit perfectly at first try before you even consider purchasing them. This is never true for off the rack items unless you have the body of an 18-year old swimmer. More often than not, off the rack items need to be altered for them to fit perfectly. For example, a pair of jeans may work for your waist area but the hems bunch up on the ground. It hugs your curves perfectly and the only real problem is the hem. What you need in this instance is your friendly tailor to cut the hems to the perfect length.
Lighter colors for younger women
With the advent of various lipstick shades, this is such an ancient rule. Young girls are allowed to wear bold colors like red or magenta as long as they stick using this color in one part of their face and make the rest of their make-up light. A very bold lip color is already enough to draw attention.
No long dresses for short women
The premise here is that a shorter skirt will give the illusion that your legs are longer. So does that mean shorter women will need to say goodbye to maxi dresses forever? No. All a vertically challenged person will need to do is to find a dress that is both long and shows enough skin at the top to ensure that the neck is accentuated. To add more to the length, women wearing this should also pull their hair up and pair the dress with some drastically tall pair of shoes. This fashion clothing piece is definitely back on the closet of our shorter friends.
